De AOA Library – as opposed to Het Nieuwe Instituut’s regular library – is an open library that will be added to and annotated by its users. The collection comprises literature on themes related to the research around Architecture of Appropriation. The AOA Library contains an initial selection of literature on the themes of appropriation, squatting and the role of the user. In bringing literature on these subjects together in one place, squatting as a spatial practice can be read and understood in a broader context.

The AOA Library Group comes together once a month to read a new or newly relevant essay and hold a public conversation in the exhibition space of Architecture of Appropriation. The articles are sent by email or post to readers. Register to join the group at

The AOA Library is found in Het Nieuwe Instituut's Study Centre on the third floor, and is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10.00 to 17.00. The first meeting will take place in March 2017.
